View full detailsFor the most accurate readings, mount the outdoor temperature sensor in a shaded, well-ventilated location, 4–6 feet (1.2–1.8 m) above natural ground or grass, and at least several feet away from buildings, walls, roofs, concrete, or other heat-radiating surfaces. Use a radiation shield to prevent direct sun from warming the probe and skewing data. If you must install near a structure, position the outdoor temperature sensor on the north side (in the Northern Hemisphere) or south side (in the Southern Hemisphere) to minimize direct sunlight and reflective heat. Ensure unobstructed airflow and keep it clear of sprinklers, vents, grills, or chimneys.
Yes. Many outdoor temperature sensors are combined temperature/humidity units, often supplied with a radiation shield to ensure stable readings. When paired with the proper transmitter or node, a combined outdoor temperature sensor can report both temperature and relative humidity. Look for models specifically described as temperature/humidity sensors for outdoor use, and consider fan-aspirated shields for the highest accuracy in variable sunlight and low-wind conditions.
