Holton, Kansas (Jun 14, 2016)--Zach Elliott may be living in Oklahoma - and has for the past 6 years - but it’s in his hometown of Holton, Kansas where Zach focuses his weather initiatives. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and accepting an IT position at a private weather company after college, Zach decided to do something about the lack of accurate weather data in Holton, a town roughly 30 miles north of Topeka.
He wanted his hometown to have the same weather data as the OK Mesonet, a network of environmental monitoring systems with at least one weather station in every county. The nearest weather station to Holton was roughly 20 miles away and was hardly an accurate depiction of weather in this town of 3,000.
